4 Reasons Your Pup Wants You to Celebrate National Pork Month

Hi, spokesdog Champ here, and this is my friend licking his chops in the photo. We wanted to let you know that October is National Pork Month, which sounds like a pretty good reason to celebrate. But if your pup needs a little convincing, we’ve got four reasons why “Porktober” deserves a place on the calendar.

1. Pork Is Packed with Protein

Protein is a pretty big deal for dogs. It provides essential amino acids that help support muscles, energy and overall health, so it’s an important part of a healthy diet. That’s where pork comes in. It’s a high-quality animal protein that can add both nutrition and plenty of flavor. Personally, I think “high-quality protein” sounds even better when it comes with a smoky aroma.

2. Pork Gives Dogs Some Variety

Chicken and beef may be the usual protein suspects, but pork deserves a spot in the rotation, too. Offering different protein sources can give us dogs some variety in our diets and, perhaps more importantly, give our taste buds something new to get excited about.

Pork has a rich, savory flavor that makes it a natural fit for treats. If you've ever seen a dog come running when they smell something delicious cooking, you already understand this part.

3. A Pork Treat with Health Benefits? Winning!

A good dog treat can be more than something that makes tails wag. It can also sneak some good stuff into the treat jar. Ingredients like spinach, kale and cranberries provide antioxidants and other nutrients that help support your pup’s overall wellness and immune health. I’m mostly here for the delicious part, but I’m definitely not complaining about the extra benefits.

4. 20% Off Is the Perfect Excuse for a Few Extra Treats

Throughout October, Champ’s Pet Kitchen’s Smoky Bites with Pork are 20% off on our website with code PORKTOBER. If that’s not a good reason to celebrate Pork Month, I don’t know what is.

Whether it’s a reward for a great sit, a training session, or simply one of those “you’re a good dog” moments, there’s always a good excuse for a tasty treat. So go ahead, make it a great Porktober.

Pup and Pork FAQs

Q: Is pork a good source of protein for dogs?

A: Absolutely. Pork provides protein and essential amino acids that help support strong muscles, energy and overall health. Plus, it brings a rich, savory flavor that makes it a natural choice for a tasty treat.

Q: What ingredients support a dog’s immune system?

A: Ingredients that provide antioxidants and nutrients can help support normal immune function. Spinach, kale and cranberries are good examples, providing antioxidants and vitamins such as C and E. That’s one reason we like seeing these kinds of ingredients in the treat jar.

Q: What should I look for in a dog treat?

A: Start with the ingredient list. Look for a quality protein source, ingredients that provide useful nutrients, and a protein, fat and calorie profile that works for your dog. And if there are ingredients you prefer to avoid, check the label to make sure they’re not there.
